On Tuesday, October 24, UAntwerpen rector prof. dr. Herman Van Goethem will officially open Kekulé cycle XX: “Our World in Transition".
Prof. dr. ir. Peter Tom Jones will commence this session by delving into the potential for responsible mining and refining practices in Europe.
Dr. Filip Delalieux will then carry the discussion forward, focusing on responsible sourcing of minerals, particularly in the context of urban mining.
Concluding the evening, Ir. Christophe Couesnon will provide valuable insights into Solvay's market vision and the crucial aspects of metal supply and demand.

The BOSS-conference is a unique international symposium as it combines lectures delivered by established organic chemists, as well as, by younger rising stars with two prestigious events: a lecture delivered by the recipient of the “Janssen Prize for Creativity in Organic Synthesis”, and the “Tetrahedron Chair”: a one-day course on a specific topic in organic synthesis.

Vlaamse Olympiades voor Natuurwetenschappen: Inschrijvingen geopend! |

Leerlingen uit de tweede en derde graad secundair onderwijs kunnen zich inschrijven voor de Vlaamse Olympiades voor Natuurwetenschappen. Deze “Olympische” wedstrijden hebben als doelstelling leerlingen te motiveren en te stimuleren om zich verder in de natuurwetenschappen te verdiepen. De finalisten en medaillewinnaars krijgen mooie prijzen. Tevens worden de beste laureaten afgevaardigd om Vlaanderen te verdedigen tijdens de Internationale Olympiades. In 2024 gaan ze voor aardrijkskunde naar Ierland, voor biologie naar Kazachstan, voor chemie naar Saoedi Arabië en voor fysica naar Iran (indien positief reisadvies).

Aquarama, mediaplatform over watertechnologie, organiseert op 19 oktober in de Brabanthal te Leuven - Haasrode de Aquarama Trade Fair. Tijdens de jaarlijkse netwerkdag waar een duizendtal mensen samenkomen rond het thema ‘duurzaam watermanagement’ verzorgen kenniscentra enkele lezingen.

Janssen Prize for Creativity in Organic Synthesis: Call for nominations! |
|
|
The Janssen Prize for Creativity in Organic Synthesis is awarded on a biennial basis, on the occasion of the BOSS, to a chemist under the age of 50 who is making significant contributions to the field of organic synthesis. The Prize consists of a medal, a citation, and €20,000. The Janssen Prize will be announced at the BOSS XVIII Symposium and in the scientific press. The nomination period is October 1 to December 31, 2023.

The EYCN organizes the fourth edition of its Chemistry Rediscovered video competition with the generous support of the Wilkinson Charitable Foundation. Young chemists (12 - 35 years old) are invited to send in their creative videos of a maximum of 90 seconds on the theme "Bringing the Sustainable Development Goals to Life".

On 12 Septembers 2023, EuChemS opened up nominations for the EuChemS Lecture Award, the EuChemS Award for Service and the EuChemS Historical Landmark Award. Nominations are invited until 19 December 2023, 18:00 CET. The EuChemS Lecture Award is a honour given every year to a junior scientist working in chemistry in a country with a EuChemS Member Organisation. The EuChemS Awards for Service is looking for nominees who possess an outstanding commitment with regard to fostering chemistry sciences in Europe, and the goals of EuChemS. The EuChemS Historical Landmark Award aims to emphasize that chemistry is an integral part of the Cultural Heritage of Europe.

2024 IUPAC-Richter Prize: Call for nominations |
|
|
The 2024 IUPAC-Richter Prize will be presented during the XXVIII EFMC International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (September 1-5, 2024) in Rome (Italy) and the recipient will also give a lecture on the subject of their research at the 38th ACS National Medicinal Chemistry Symposium (June 23-26) in Seattle, WA, United States. The prize is to be awarded to an internationally recognized scientist, preferably a medicinal chemist, whose activities or published accounts have made an outstanding contribution to the practice of medicinal chemistry or to an outstanding example of new drug discovery.

The Thieme Group in collaboration with IUPAC and the Editors of SYNTHESIS, SYNLETT, SYNFACTS, and Science of Synthesis announce the Thieme-IUPAC Prize for 2024. This award is presented every two years on the occasion of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry – International Conference on Organic Synthesis (IUPAC–ICOS). It includes an award of €5,000.
