Chemistry Europe, of which KVCV is one of the partner societies, has launched a new Travel Exchange Grant. KVCV members can receive up to €2 000 for visiting a PI abroad for 1-2 months, 2-7 years after their PhD. Check our website for more information and how to apply.

The call for nominations for the 2024 EuChemS Young Chemists' Award (EYCA) is open. The aim of this award is to showcase and recognize the excellent research being carried out by young scientists working in the chemical sciences. In particular the award is intended to honor and encourage younger chemists whose current research displays a high level of excellence and distinction. It seeks to recognize and reward younger chemists of exceptional ability who show promise for substantial future achievements in chemistry-related research fields.
The deadline for nominations is 19 April 2024.

EFMC-YMCS 2024: Flash Poster submission deadline is approaching! |

|
The 11th edition of the EFMC Young Medicinal Chemists' Symposium will be held in Rome, Italy on September 5-6, 2024, and will be organised by the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology (EFMC) and the EFMC Young Scientists Network (YSN). The event will be organised in connection with the XXVIII EFMC International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC-ISMC 2024).
The committee encourages you to share your scientific work and network with your fellow European researchers. Submission deadline for flash poster presentations is May 6. Out of the proposals, about 20 presentations will be selected. Abstracts for posters can still be submitted until July 10.

Tijdens een European Industry Summit bij BASF in Antwerpen hebben meer dan 70 internationale CEO’s uit bijna 20 industriesectoren de ‘Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal’ overhandigd aan Belgisch premier Alexander De Croo en Europees Commissievoorzitter Ursula von der Leyen. Met deze verklaring van Antwerpen engageren de bedrijven zich voor een duurzame industriële transitie, maar vragen ze met urgentie om een ondersteunend industriebeleid dat de Europese industrie weer concurrentieel en aantrekkelijk voor investeringen maakt.

Vlaamse Regering en vier industriefederaties tekenen ‘Toekomstpact voor de Vlaamse Industrie’ |

De vier grootste industriefederaties – essenscia (chemie en life sciences), Agoria (technologie), Fedustria (textiel, hout en meubel) en Fevia (voeding) – hebben op 23 maart op de allereerste Vlaamse Industrietop een ‘Toekomstpact voor de Vlaamse industrie’ ondertekend met de Vlaamse regering. De boodschap: de industrie is een fundamentele pijler voor welvaart en werkgelegenheid, en speelt een cruciale rol in grote maatschappelijke uitdagingen zoals digitalisering, de energie- en klimaattransitie en de circulaire economie. Daarom is er nood aan een ambitieus industriebeleid dat inzet op concurrentiekracht, innovatie, talent, transitie en een attractief investeringsklimaat.

Agfa bevordert duurzame innovatie door strategische samenwerking met VITO en EU-financiering voor groene waterstofproductie |

Agfa zet zijn samenwerking voort met VITO om een nieuwe generatie van scheidingsmembranen voor alkaline waterelektrolyzers te ontwikkelen. Agfa en VITO hebben een rijke gemeenschappelijke geschiedenis in dit domein, wat in 2007 resulteerde in de commerciële lancering van de eerste generatie ZIRFON-membranen. Binnen hun uitgebreide samenwerking zal VITO samen met Agfa werken aan de ontwikkeling van nieuwe poreuze gasscheidingsmembranen om de prestaties van elektrolyzers te verbeteren en de totale waterstofproductiekost te verminderen.

Covestro neemt in Antwerpen nieuwe productie-installatie voor polycarbonaat copolymeren in gebruik |

Covestro heeft recent op zijn Antwerpse site de eerste fabriek opgestart voor de productie van polycarbonaat copolymeren op industriële schaal. De nieuwe technologie, die intern werd ontwikkeld, is gebaseerd op een innovatief en oplosmiddelvrij smeltproces in combinatie met een nieuw reactorconcept. Dit maakt de productie van polycarbonaten met aanpasbare eigenschappen mogelijk, die de voorbije jaren op laboratorium- en pilootschaal binnen Covestro zijn ontwikkeld en getest.
