On December 16th, KVCV will visit the Science Park of the University of Antwerp and ViTalent in Niel. There will be three keynote lectures in the field of "The Chemistry in Health Innovation." In addition, we will honor the laureates of the Chemistry Europe Fellows Award and the KVCV-SRC Incentive Awards, and some KVCV members will be honored as honorary members. There will also be guided tours through ViTalent.

The preparation for the 20th edition of the Young Belgian Magnetic Resonance Scientist (YBMRS) conference on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th of November 2024 at the Floréal in Blankenberge is well underway.
The abstract submission of oral and poster communications are still welcome until October 15th (23:59).

On 9 September, the calls for nominations for a number of prestigious awards by EuChemS were opened. The calls are open until 9 December 2024.
You can nominate outstanding chemists for the EuChemS Gold Medal Award, the EuChemS Lecture Award, the EuChemS Award for Service and the new EuChemS Industry Innovation Award.

EuChemS ChemBioLife Young Investigator Award |

|
Chemistry Europe (Wiley-VCH GmbH) and the EuChemS Division of Chemistry in Life Sciences seek to acknowledge and recognize outstanding young research group leaders that contribute to the field of Chemical Biology.
The prize will consist of a diploma, € 1,000 and the presentation by the Prize recipient of an invited lecture at the next edition of the European Chemical Biology Symposium (6-9 October 2025 in Paris) jointly organized by the EuChemS-LS Division, the ICBS and the EU-Openscreen.

Chemistry Europe Award: Call for Nominations |

|
With the Chemistry Europe Award, Chemistry Europe honors every two years scientists who have made outstanding contributions in a field of chemistry. The topic of the award is determined by the Chemistry Europe Council. This new prize was awarded for the first time in 2023 in the field of chemistry for sustainability, energy, materials, and the environment. The Chemistry Europe Award is endowed with prize money amounting to EUR 10,000 and a certificate.
Nominees for the Chemistry Europe Award should be scientists who have made major contributions to an area of chemistry and significantly advanced our understanding of a particular field.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with one half to David Baker “for computational protein design” and the other half jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper “for protein structure prediction.”

Chemiebedrijven in Antwerpse haven onderzoeken hergebruik afvalwater met project CHERISH2O |
|
|
Hoe kunnen we bedrijfsafvalwater van chemiebedrijven in de Antwerpse haven op grote schaal zuiveren voor hergebruik? Dat is het opzet van het onderzoeksproject CHERISH2O (CHEmical industry water Reuse In a Sustainable Harbour) dat deze maand van start gaat. Twaalf chemiebedrijven zetten er mee hun schouders onder, samen met sectorfederatie essenscia, Antea Group, Port of Antwerp-Bruges, VITO en VMM. Door zelf hoogwaardig proceswater te produceren vanuit afvalwaterstromen verminderen de bedrijven hun waterverbruik en kan de industrie in geval van droogte de risico’s rond watertekorten beperken en de drinkwaterlevering aan burgers helpen vrijwaren. ?

BASF Antwerpen opent nieuwe installatie voor alkylethanolamines |
|
|
BASF Antwerpen heeft een nieuwe productie-installatie voor alkylethanolamines in gebruik genomen. Daarmee verhoogt het chemiebedrijf zijn wereldwijde jaarlijkse productiecapaciteit van het product met bijna 30%. Alkylethanolamines worden onder andere toegepast in waterbehandeling, als bindmiddel in de coatingsindustrie en in wasverzachters.
