New strategies towards the controlled synthesis of conjugated copolymers

In this research, new strategies are considered to obtain conjugated polymers. A conjugated polymer is a special kind of plastic that is able to absorb light and conduct electricity. This is very interesting for solar cell applications, because the beneficial properties of plastics (light weight, flexibility) can now be combined with properties that are typically related to metals (such as conductivity). Although different conjugated polymers can already be synthesized, this research aims to broaden the scope of these very interesting materials.
