Abstract

The discovery and development of metal-oxo cluster based catalysts for the atom-economic and water-tolerant amide bond formation directly from non-activated carboxylic acids and amines will be presented in this talk. Amide bonds are pivotal structural motifs across all fields of chemistry, from biochemistry to medicinal chemistry and materials. Despite long established, current methods for the synthesis of amides still challenge modern standards of reaction efficiency, and better catalytic routes are highly desired. Inorganic metal-oxo clusters embedding Lewis acidic metals have been recently discovered to streamline amide bond formation under mild conditions, largely increasing the sustainability of these reactions and breaking new ground for inorganic, organic and materials chemists to innovate in chemistry and related areas.

Incentive Awards

The Incentive Awards (€2500) are bestowed by C.G.B.- C.B.B. upon young creative chemists, typically postdocs, for their excellence in research. There are on average two incentive awards per year. The candidates must have at least two publications in one of the Chemistry Europe journals.

C.G.B. (Comité de Gestion du Bulletin) - C.B.B. (Comité van Beheer van het Bulletin) is an intermediate between the two Belgian chemical societies (Koninklijke Vlaamse Chemische Vereniging and Société Royale de Chimie) and Chemistry Europe.
